Extremely Disappointed and Concerned About This Veterinarian I am extremely disappointed with a veterinarian at this practice who also serves on the board of FIDO, a pet-food pantry that helps people who need assistance feeding their animals. My rescue back then suffered the heartbreaking loss of a rescue kitten after a brand-new veterinary technician administered subcutaneous fluids. We believe the kitten was given too much fluid, and the kitten died. Because of what happened, I filed a complaint with the appropriate veterinary regulatory authorities because I believed the circumstances surrounding the kitten’s death deserved to be investigated. What I find incredibly upsetting is that the veterinarian at this practice who is involved with FIDO subsequently banned me from receiving pet-food assistance through FIDO. I was not banned from Meals on Wheels, but FIDO would not provide pet food to me, including through Meals on Wheels, even though I am eligible for assistance. I have a very difficult time understanding how a veterinarian who claims to care about animals can be involved with an organization whose purpose is to help people feed their pets, yet deny that assistance to someone because they filed a complaint about veterinary care after their rescue kitten died. People who need pet-food assistance are often already struggling. Their pets still need to eat. For many people, pets are family and an important source of companionship and emotional support. I filed a complaint because a kitten died. I did not file it to cause trouble. I filed it because I believed what happened needed to be addressed and investigated. The fact that the veterinarian connected to this situation is also on the board of the organization that denied me pet-food assistance raises serious concerns for me about fairness, retaliation, and conflict of interest. I believe veterinary professionals should advocate for animals—not make it harder for people to feed their other animals because they exercised their right to report a concern. This experience has left me deeply disappointed in both the veterinarian’s actions and the way FIDO’s assistance program has been handled. I hope the organization will reconsider whether this is truly consistent with its mission of helping people and their pets.

I’ve been taking my kitties here for years and have always been treated with kindness and empathy. They always make sure to explain all costs and all options and my kitties always feel calm there.
